The former Fairmont Hotel New Orleans, originally opened in 1893 as The Grunewald, was one of the city’s grandest landmarks. Renamed the Roosevelt in 1923 and later the Fairmont in 1965, it stood at Baronne and University Streets, just off Canal Street near the French Quarter. In the 1990s, the Fairmont was famed for its opulent lobby, elegant ballrooms, and the legendary Sazerac Bar. The hotel featured over 700 guest rooms, including luxury suites that hosted presidents, celebrities, and Mardi Gras royalty.
